The upcoming Facebook VR headset called Oculus Quest 2 was shown by the marketing department of Facebook. The video officially confirms the existence of Oculus Quest 2, which is due this week. According to available data, Facebook considers this device to be “the most advanced universal virtual reality system to date”.
Oculus Quest 2 will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR-2 single crystal system. Compared to the original Snapdragon 835 processor installed by Oculus Quest, the difference will be huge. The performance of the processor and graphics processor will be doubled, and the AI processing speed will be 11 times higher. Besides, Qualcomm Snapdragon XR-2 provides 6 times higher video resolution and 4 times higher bandwidth.
Other Oculus Quest 2 features include 6GB of RAM and a display resolution of “about 4K”. Compared to the original model, the number of pixels has increased by about 50%. This makes the device a virtual reality headset with the highest resolution. As far as storage capacity is concerned, the 256 GB version is announced, but there may be others.
In addition, Oculus Quest 2 will be smaller and lighter thanks to better ergonomics. The controller will be more comfortable. Quest users will be able to play Oculus Rift games once the device is connected to the PC.
Most likely, this device will be presented at the Facebook Connect event, which will be held in late autumn of this year. That’s when we will know the prices.
