The wireless headset Oculus Quest has a successor, whose characteristics have been improved in all directions. The new headset is much more productive, it has a more user-friendly form, offers higher resolution and supports an update rate of 90 Hz.
Oculus Quest 2 is built on a new hardware platform Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, which is complemented by 6 GB of RAM. Now displays have a resolution of 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye, which is about 50% more than in the original device.
Oculus doesn’t tell which display has a screen, OLED or LCD, but sources believe it uses LCD panels. Pretty soon, game updates will start to appear, which will add support for 90 Hz image refresh rate.
The main advantage of the Oculus Quest 2 headset is that it can be used independently of the PC, although the device can be used in conjunction with it without any problems. The developers have improved the performance of Oculus Insight tracking system by using the computing power of Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform.
Ergonomics was improved by reducing the weight by more than 10% and adjustable intertransparent distance. Support for additional accessories for added comfort is also implemented.
Preliminary orders for this device are already open and start at $299, which is $100 less than the price of the original model.
