GeForce RTX 3070 in the face of a reference card in general is excellent for playing at a resolution of 2.5K at maximum graphics settings and using ray tracing technology (RT). And in games that support Nvidia DLSS technology, it provides acceptable comfort in 4K resolution with RT or 4K resolution without RT and DLSS. Video card Palit is not much different from the reference product in this regard.

Who is the manufacturer?
Palit Microsystems (Palit trademark) was founded in 1988 in the Republic of China (Taiwan). The headquarters are in Taipei/Taiwan, a large logistics center is in Hong Kong, the second office (in Europe) is in Germany. Factories – in China.
In 2005, the company acquired the trade mark and a number of Gainward assets (after, in fact, the bankruptcy of the company of the same name), after which the Palit Group holding was formed. Another office was opened in Shenzhen, aimed at sales in China.
The card has 8 GB of GDDR6 SDRAM memory located in 8 chips of 8 GB on the front side of PCB. Samsung memory chips (GDDR6, K4Z80325BC-HC14) are designed for a nominal nominal frequency of 3500 (14000) MHz.
Features and comparison with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition
Recall that Nvidia made two versions of PCB design: for its Founders Edition cards and for partners. The Palit card is based exactly on the second variant. We can see that the differences are only in the placement of a number of batteries, as well as in the power connectors.
Total number of power phases for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition is 11: 9 phases per core and 2 phases per memory chips. The Palit card has 12 phases in total: 2 on memory and 10 on GPU. Let’s say: where the reference card is not soldered an extra phase of the GPU power circuit, the Palit card has it.
The power supply circuit of the core is green and the memory circuit is red. There are no phase doublers (dubblers), two uPI Semiconductor PWM controllers are used to control the GPU power circuit: uP9512R (capable of controlling 8 phases at most) and uP1666Q (designed for 2 phases). Both are located on the back side of the board.
On the same back side there is a PWM controller uS5650Q (uPI), which controls the 2-phase power circuit of memory chips.
The GPU power converter, traditionally for all Nvidia graphics cards, uses transistor assemblies DrMOS – in this case AOZ5311NGI (Alpha&Omega Semiconductor), each of which is designed for a maximum of 50 A.
The memory chip power converter uses other mosfettes: SM7342EKKP (Sinopower). Backlight is controlled by a separate Holtek HT50F52241 controller.
OEM memory frequencies of the Palit card are equal to reference values, but the kernel frequency is a bit higher, but the performance was practically not affected.
The card is controlled by the Thunder Master v4.3 utility, which was used to test manual overclocking to ensure stable operation when the core frequency increases by 104 MHz, and memory – by 750 MHz (maximum frequency – 2040/15500 MHz). The final performance gain was about 4 percent, with the maximum power consumption rising to 272W against 235W at nominal frequencies.
Heating and cooling
We’ve repeatedly said that the new Founders Edition cards have a special cooling system that requires compact PCBs, so PCB cards of the GeForce RTX 30 series from many Nvidia partners are very compact, and the principles of cooler operation are similar to reference cards.
Here we see the familiar large two-section nickel plated radiator with heat tubes, the sole of which cools the GPU. The memory chips, like the VRM power converters, are cooled with a separate plate screwed to the main heat sink. The rear plate serves only as a stiffening element.
Over the radiator is a casing with three fans ∅95 mm, which have double bearings. The feature of the CO is that the far right (pictured) fan blows the heatsink through the holes in the back plate, and the far left fan blows hot air outside the housing through the holes in the card bracket. The PCB is shortened precisely for the right fan to work effectively.
The video card stops the fans at low load if the GPU temperature drops below 55 degrees. Of course, the CO becomes silent at the same time. When you start your PC, the fans are running, but after loading the video driver polls the operating temperature and they are turned off.
Temperature monitoring with MSI Afterburner:
After a 6-hour run under load the maximum core temperature did not exceed 73 degrees, which is a satisfactory result for video cards of this level.
During manual overclocking, the heating and noise parameters changed very little.
The method of noise measurement implies that the room is noise-insulated and muffled, reverberation is reduced. The system unit, which examines the noise of video cards, has no fans, is not a source of mechanical noise. The background level of 18 dBA is the noise level in the room and the noise level of the noise meter itself. Measurements are made at a distance of 50 cm from the graphics card at the cooling system level.
- Idle mode in 2D: Internet browser downloaded from iXBT.com, Microsoft Word window, a number of Internet Communicators;
- 2D mode with watching movies: SmoothVideo Project (SVP) is used – hardware decoding with insertion of intermediate frames;
- 3D mode with maximum load on booster: FurMark test used
The estimation of noise level gradation is as follows:
- less than 20 dBA: conditionally noiseless;
- 20 to 25 dBA: very quiet;
- 25 to 30 dBA: quietly;
- 30 to 35 dBA: clearly audible;
- 35 to 40 dBA: loud but tolerable;
- above 40 dBA: very loud.
In idle mode in 2D the temperature was not higher than 39 ° C, fans were not working, the noise level was equal to the background – 18 dBA. When watching a movie with hardware decoding, nothing changed. In maximum load mode in 3D, the temperature reached 73 °C. Fans were spinning up to 1930 rpm, the noise increased to 34.7 dBA: it is clearly audible, on the verge of high noise.
In general, this noise mode can be considered acceptable.
The backlight of the card is multicolor, ARGB, implemented as a wide band, walking diagonally across the CO.
In general, card backlighting software can offer a good combination of effects, especially when combined with motherboard or chassis backlighting. Unfortunately, there is no synchronization of work with backlighting management utilities for motherboards from well-known manufacturers.
Packaging and delivery set
The package, apart from the traditional user manual, includes a small number of power adapters from 6-pin to 8-pin connectors.
Palit GeForce RTX 3070 GamingPro OC (8 GB) is a good representative of the most attractive in terms of cost in the new line of 3D booster GeForce RTX 3070. In a review of GeForce RTX 3070, we’ve already written that 2 years ago, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti opened up 4K resolution for players, providing decent performance – but without including ray tracing. And the GeForce RTX 3070 raises the bar, providing acceptable 4K performance with RT, while also enabling DLSS – and very good speed.
Thus, GeForce RTX 3070 is perfect for playing in 4K resolution, allowing you to play even with RT if you enable DLSS at the same time. And in 2.5K resolution, this solution allows you to play with ray tracing even without DLSS!
As for the specific Palit card, it should be noted the standard modern size (2.5-slot design, length less than 30 cm), good overclocking potential within what Nvidia drivers allow, the presence of beautiful backlighting. Yes, the card can not be called quiet under load, but the noise is still not extremely high.
