Why new GeForce RTX 3000 graphics cards don’t have a USB-C connector?

The USB-C standard, or as it is called VirtualLink, was first introduced on GeForce RTX 2000 graphics cards. It is a special interface for connecting VirtualLink headsets. It was created within a consortium that includes AMD, Nvidia, Microsoft, Oculus, Valve and HTC.

However, this interface has never gained popularity. Among Turing video cards it was mainly equipped with reference cards, AMD didn’t release any adapters with VirtualLink at all, and even headset manufacturers used mostly USB-C, but not VirtualLink, though the latter just uses the same connector.

As we already know, Nvidia graphics cards of Ampere line have no VirtualLink interface, and the official website of this standard does not work anymore. Thus, we can probably state the fact that the VirtualLink standard is “dead”…
