Is 10 GB memory of GeForce RTX 3080 enough for 4K games and video?

As you know, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card received 10 GB of memory. On the one hand, the capacity is still not small, but on the other – RTX 3090 has as much as 24 GB, what then prevented to equip RTX 3080 at least 12 GB? Users asked a logical question to the manufacturer, and this is how the answer turned out.

According to the company, for games with a screen resolution of 4K 10 GB is quite enough. To be more precise, at this resolution and frame rate of 60-100 FPS is used on average 4-6 GB, so there is even a small reserve.

Nvidia even had an argument. As it turned out, the above data regarding frequency, resolution and memory usage is valid for a large number of games, including Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Gears 5, Borderlands 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2. And if 10 GB is enough for games, there is no need to increase the memory size, because it will only increase the price of the model. In other words, 10 GB for RTX 3080 is an optimal balance between price and performance.

However, the question still remains: if 10 GB is really enough, then why release the GeForce RTX 3080 version with 20 GB of memory. But such a video card is already confirmed, and its output is only a matter of time.
