An image of a real Navi 21 graphics processor – the one that should form the basis of the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card – has appeared on the Web. It is comparable in number of transistors to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU.
The insider who has managed to receive the image, has recorded the whole video in which has compared Navi 21 and Navi 10, and also has presented the data on which basis it is possible to put an equality sign in performance perspective Radeon RX 6900 XT and GeForce RTX 3080.
You can watch the whole video, or you can go for the most interesting screenshots. According to the obtained data, the size of the crystal is 29 x 18.5 mm, and the area -536 mm2. The number of transistors is unknown, but based on the number of transistors in Navi 10, we can assume that they will be about 26 billion.
This compares to the number of GeForce RTX 3080 (28.3 billion) GPUs. However, if the Nvidia 3D card GPU operates at 1.7 GHz, the frequency attributed to the Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU is 2.2 GHz. Theoretically, performance of these two models should be approximately at one level (and as it is known, GeForce RTX 3090 has slightly left from younger model on performance in games) so it is possible to think that models of ruler Radeon RX 6900 will be approximately comparable to video cards of the competitor.
It is also confirmed that the Radeon RX 6900 XT, in addition to a huge GPU with a large chip, will receive GDDR6 memory. And since this is the top model of the series, then all the others too, respectively, will get GDDR6 memory.
While this is all theory and rumors, but happy at least the very fact of the appearance of an image of a real Navi GPU. So far, this is the first major leak, but it will be followed by the following. So by the end of the month we will already know much more about the capabilities of Radeon RX 6900.
