Profoto A10 Flash works with smartphones using Bluetooth AirX technology

Swedish company Profoto has added a third model to its line of flashes with round heads. The novelty is called A10. It is very similar to its predecessor A1X. In fact, the innovation compared with the A1X one – Bluetooth interface and based on it technology AirX, which allows you to use the flash even with a smartphone.

It should be noted that a ten-channel radio frequency interface Profoto Air in the 2.4 GHz band, present in the A1X and providing remote control at a distance of up to 300 meters in line-of-sight conditions, too. Earlier support for AirX appeared in monoblocks Profoto B10 and B10 Plus, as well as in LED luminaires Profoto C1 and C1 Plus, but among the flashes Profoto model A10 was the first to support AirX.

To use a flash with your smartphone, you will need the Profoto application, available for Android and iOS. Of course, the A10 works with SLR cameras and mirrorless cameras. The manufacturer offers options for use with Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon and Sony cameras.

The flash has a branded round head with a magnetic mount for light modifiers, supports AirTTL and HSS. The energy of the flash reaches 76 Watts. The recharge time after full power pulse is 1 second, and one battery charge is enough for 450 pulses of full power. The flash is equipped with an LED simulator light source and a USB interface used for firmware updates.

The Profoto A10’s size is 75 x 108 x 165 mm, weight is 560 g, and the flash costs $1095. Includes lithium-ion battery, charger, diffuser, reflector, stand and bag. Sales have already started.
