Following the standard version of the Android 11, Google introduced a special version of the OS for inexpensive and low-power smartphones – Android 11 Go Edition.
This is the 3rd generation of Android Go Edition, first debuted in 2018. According to Google, the version of the Android 11 Go Edition is capable of 20% faster to run the application than last year’s Android 10 Go Edition.
Like the standard Android 11, in the version for budget smartphones there is a single section for managing chat rooms in the notification center, which makes it easier to view, respond and manage messages in one place.
New security features have been implemented and users will have easier control over how and when information is transmitted from the device. Updated privacy settings allow applications to give one-time access to the microphone, camera, GPS, and so on. An automatic reset function has been introduced when permissions are revoked if the application is not used for a long time. In addition, the Android 11 Go Edition supports gesture navigation.
As Google notes, from next month the platform will be available for all new devices with 2 GB of RAM and less. Previously, it was offered for devices with 1.5 GB and less. According to the developers, this will allow smartphones with Android 11 Go Edition to run three or four applications in the background. The manufacturers will not be obliged to install the Android 11 Go Edition on such smartphones, but support for them is provided.
