Microsoft created the secret theme of Windows XP, which made the operating system look like a Mac. This discovery was made thanks to the recent leak of Windows XP source code.
Thanks to the leak, information about the early stages of operating system creation became available. In particular, there were declassified several topics that Microsoft created during the development process and later did not release “into the public”.
One of these topics is called Candy and includes a design that closely resembles Aqua interface, first presented by Apple at Macworld Conference & Expo in 2000. Although the theme is not complete, the Start button and some other buttons and interface elements definitely coincide with Apple Aqua.
Microsoft has never released this topic for Windows XP. Apparently, Candy was used by developers when debugging the theme engine in the OS, as it is marked as “for internal use only”. The topic was described as Whistler skin with eye candy, while Whistler was code named Windows XP.
