Another bug of Windows 10. The system mistakenly offers to install old drivers

Microsoft has made another mess of updates for computers with the Windows 10 operating system. According to users who faced the problem, Microsoft began distributing old and inappropriate drivers to some computers. Moreover, these users are not participants of Windows Insider testing.

“Unnecessary” updates of Intel – System started to be distributed last week simultaneously with other optional driver updates for Windows 10 version 2004 (May 2020 Update). And after installing the drivers, the same update is again available for download and installation.

Another bug of Windows 10. The system mistakenly offers to install old drivers

In some cases, Windows Update (Windows Update Center) can show older drivers, including instances with the 1968 release date. Microsoft seems to have deliberately set these “ancient” dates to avoid installation in cases where the system has drivers from the manufacturer.

As the WindowsLatest theme resource notes, if Intel – System or other inappropriate drivers appear in the section with optional Windows Update (Windows Update Center), you should not install them. If you install them, the computer will “roll back” to the old version, you need to find and install the latest version of the driver on the manufacturer’s website.
