Smartphone manufacturers are increasingly using OLED displays instead of LCD panels for their devices. Along with the leading smartphone brands such as Samsung, Huawei and Apple, other companies, including OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi and others, more often use OLED panels for their smartphones.
The results of a recent study by UBI Research indicate that China became the largest buyer of OLED panels for smartphones in the second quarter of this year. Chinese manufacturers have bought 52.5% of all manufactured OLED screens for smartphones or 30.4 million units.
South Korea accounted for 35%, the U.S. ranks third with the result of 8.3%. These statistics are surprising, because only recently Samsung Electronics bought most OLED-panels. However, last quarter was historic for the industry.
Huawei was the leader among Chinese companies that bought OLED-panels. It has purchased 53.4% of all screens shipped to China. It is followed by OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi, which account for 18.6%, 14.8% and 8.3% respectively.
According to the forecast, in the future, Chinese OLED panel manufacturers will continue to increase production volumes.
