Sony has decided to leave the Brazilian market. The local production facility, located in Manaus, will be closed at the end of March 2021, when Sony will end the current fiscal year. And by mid-year it is planned to “suspend” the sale of consumer goods, which was engaged in a local branch of Sony Brasil Ltda. This applies to all types of goods, including TVs, audio equipment and cameras.
According to the manufacturer, the decision was made “taking into account the latest conditions and expected business trends. It is said to be “aimed at strengthening the structure and sustainability of the company’s business”.
At the same time, Sony Brasil will continue to work, providing technical support and fulfilling warranty obligations. This is quite understandable, because otherwise the company would violate Brazilian legislation. In addition, other divisions of the Sony Group in Brazil (Games, Professional Solutions, Music and Pictures Entertainment) will also continue to operate. At least for the time being.
