In a compact crossover Cadillac XT4 model 2021 model year has a useful feature familiar to all users of modern smartphones: unlock by the facial identification (Face ID). How it works – well shows the video below.
As you can see, in the upper part of the car door frame there is a special module with three cameras – two infrared and one RGB. This is what makes face recognition possible. As the source writes, the system recognizes up to 106 facial areas, and the process takes only 2 seconds. Up to 8 users can be added to the memory. The system is designed to work both at night and in the daytime.
Users who find it inconvenient to open a car in this way can use the built-in fingerprint scanner or a standard digital touch screen panel for pin-code input – this feature has been present in American cars for many years.
Interestingly, the American version of Cadillac XT4 has no face recognition function. Apparently, it is exclusively offered to the Chinese audience.
