Chinese car manufacturer Zhejiang Geely Holding Group presented its first platform for electric cars. It is expected that it will help accelerate the production of new models both under Geely’s own brand name and the company’s partners.
The platform is called Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). According to the manufacturer, it is suitable for both small and large cars, including sedans, SUVs, vans and pickups. It has spent $2.6 billion to develop the SEA and related research. The features of SEA include the widespread use of aluminum to lighten the cars.
The platform is well suited for the implementation of intelligent automotive technologies, including Internet connectivity and self-managed driving. The platform includes a battery system with a lifetime of 2 million km, made by specialists Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL).
Last year Geely sold over 2 million cars. It is already building its own car factory, designed for the new architecture. Electric cars on the new platform will be promoted under nine brands, including Geely, Volvo and Smart. In addition, negotiations are under way to share the platform with other car manufacturers.
