USA plans to disinfect stadiums with drones

Despite the recent COVID-19 outbreak in the National Football League (NFL), which led to the cancellation of games, some teams are planning to return to the field in the coming weeks. One of them is Atlanta Falcons. To reduce risks, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MBS) in Atlanta will be one of the first sports facilities to disinfect key areas with drones.

MBS will use D1 disinfectant drones from Lucid Drone Technologies to treat seats, handrails and glass partitions at the stadium. Disinfection drones are said to significantly reduce the time of disinfection and increase its efficiency many times over the application of disinfectant solutions from backpack sprayers.

The source notes that cleaning surfaces from viruses is good, but epidemiologists now believe that transmission through surfaces probably plays an insignificant role in coronavirus proliferation. A great danger is posed by a sneezing or coughing carrier, i.e. an airborne transmission path.
