Tesla has started distributing fresh software updates that improve the autopilot function in electric vehicles. The update brings the ability to automatically overcome traffic lights without the car ahead.
In the spring, the car manufacturer has launched the hotly anticipated Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control function. At that time, the function was able to automatically stop at a red light and before the stop sign. At that time, the autopilot could not overcome the intersection to the green light itself, it required a response from the driver. In June, it was possible to automatically go to the green light intersection, following the vehicle ahead.
In the new update number 2020.40.1 the automaker has removed the requirement to follow the leading car for autopilot.
However, Tesla has warned that this may not work at all intersections. Apparently, as long as the function is available only for simple junctions. In some cases, driver confirmation will be required, for example, if the car has already stopped when the green light is on.
