Rumors that Tesla will enter the Indian market have been circulating since 2016, when head of the company Ilon Musk first mentioned it. And now the same Musk has announced that the official sales of Tesla in India will start in 2021. Cars are likely to come from China.
The top manager, already a tradition for himself, told about it on Twitter, and not on his page, but in comments. However, this is enough for many people in India who are interested in buying an advanced electric car. After all, unlike the head of Nikola, the head of Tesla words do not throw away.
Apparently, cars will be delivered to the Indian market from a Chinese factory – even despite the strained relations between India and China, it is quite possible. Although Tesla is already looking for a site for a second plant in Asia (presumably, it will be built in Japan), and in case of aggravation of the situation in the region, supplies will be organized from another Asian factory.
Interestingly, Tesla may even claim for government subsidies from India. Its Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier announced a government plan to provide $4.6 billion in subsidies for companies that will open factories in India to produce batteries for electric cars.
