It was expected that the company Huawei will present its flagship single crystal system Kirin 9000 during the IFA 2020 exhibition this week, but the presentation was canceled. This single-crystal system should become the hardware base for smartphones line Huawei Mate 40.
Chinese sources have explained why Huawei canceled the announcement of Kirin 9000 at the IFA 2020. According to insider information, the management of Huawei decided to postpone the announcement of the world’s first 5nm chip for two reasons.
First, against the background of endless news about new U.S. sanctions, the manufacturer did not want to attract extra attention. Second – and this reason is more important – Huawei is waiting for the delivery of the Kirin 9000 from TSMC, which operates in 24/7 mode, to prepare as many Kirin 9000 as possible before the end of this year.
Recall that the U.S. authorities have decided that after September 14, companies using hardware and software from the U.S. are not allowed to do business with Huawei. At the moment, no one knows how many Kirin 9000 single-chip systems TSMC will have time to prepare for Huawei in the remaining days. Experts assume that the number of the latest chipsets can reach 15 million units, which should be enough for the Mate 40 line.
