MediaTek announced that it intends to become an active player in the notebook market. Of course, not by releasing its devices, but by creating suitable platforms for them.
Next year MediaTek intends to release the MT8195 single-chip system, specially created for devices with Chrome OS. This SoC will be produced on a 6 nm process, which means that it will be very energy efficient, which should have a positive impact on the autonomy of notebooks.
Unfortunately, there are no details about the configuration of such a platform yet, but it seems that this will be the first MediaTek solution designed specifically for notebooks, as the MT8183 and MT8173, which were and are being used (at least the first) for laptops now, have been presented as platforms for tablets.
In addition, in his speech to introduce MediaTek, speaking about plans for notebook markets, he cited the example of Apple and its transition to processors of its own design with the architecture of Arm, although in this case the analogy is, of course, conditional.
