A few days ago, the research company Counterpoint Research published an analytical report on the market of single-chip systems for cell phones in the second quarter of this year.
If we evaluate sales in the global market, Qualcomm’s share in the second quarter of this year was 29%. The gap between Qualcomm and MediaTek is very small, MediaTek took 26% of the market. It should be noted that a year ago market shares of Qualcomm and MediaTek were 33% and 24% respectively. And a couple of years ago nobody could even imagine a hypothetical situation, at which MediaTek will overtake Qualcomm at the market of mobile chips.
However it can happen in the nearest future as the market share of Qualcomm decreases and sales of MediaTek are growing. The third place went to Huawei HiSilicon with the result of 16%, while a year earlier the company owned 12% of the market.
The companies Samsung and Apple each own 13% of the market of single-crystal systems for mobile devices.
If we evaluate the Chinese market separately, Huawei HiSilicon owns more than 40%. This is almost the same amount as Qualcomm and MediaTek combined. But in other markets, Huawei HiSilicon’s share is negligibly small.
It should also be noted that after September 15, when the new U.S. sanctions came into force, the supply of high-performance Huawei Kirin chips will be sharply reduced.
