According to confirmed sources, Arm is working on a high-performance Neoverse N2 platform for servers that provide cloud services. It will receive 128 cores of computing.
Neoverse N2 will compete with the server solutions of Intel and AMD, and it has many other advantages, in addition to the huge number of cores. For example, 5-nanometer process, TDP only 350 W, support for DDR5 and HBM2e memory, scalable vector expansion (SVE) and PCIe 5 interface. Simultaneously with Neoverse N2 is preparing a more affordable platform Neoverse V1, which will differ in a smaller number of cores – 96. However, the multi-threading technology is not announced for Neoverse N2 or for Neoverse V1.
Neoverse N2 will be released approximately in 2021. As you know, Nvidia is already making a deal to buy Arm, one should be completed within 18 months. Therefore, it may happen that Intel and AMD processors will no longer compete with the Arm itself, but with Nvidia.
