According to a recent SensorTower report, users installed 36.5 billion applications in the third quarter of 2020. This represents an increase of approximately 23.3% over the same period last year. We’re talking about total installations of applications from Google Play and the App Store.
In addition, total user spending in two stores increased by 32%. TikTok remains the most downloadable app in the third quarter of 2020. TikTok is number one in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. In terms of spending, iOS is ahead of Android by a wide margin.
Other applications such as Facebook, Zoom, WhatsApp and Instagram are also very popular. Recently, TikTok has been at the centre of discussions. The company has faced the threat of a ban by the US government. An agreement has since been reached with Oracle and Walmart and the company can now continue its business.
iOS still outperforms Android by a wide margin. In the third quarter, the App Store generated revenue of $19 billion. As for the Google Play Store, it brought in $10.3 billion. Keep in mind that Chinese Android users don’t use Google Play. That’s why China’s Android users don’t count here. In fact, the revenue gap between iOS and Android may not be that wide.
