Apple has released a software update for its wireless headphones – AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro. The company itself did not provide an exact list of changes, which brings the firmware number 3A283. However, users quickly found one important innovation.
It’s about support for Spatial Audio (Spatial Sound) for AirPods Pro headphones. The function was presented at the summer conference for developers WWDC 2020. To work it requires iOS 14 installed on your smartphone or iPadOS 14 on your tablet. The Spatial Audio function is designed to provide sound “like in a movie theater”. It uses AirPods Pro and iPhone gyroscopes and accelerometers to track user head movements and position of the smartphone, and then adjust the sound accordingly.
Another innovation discovered is the automatic switching of headphones between devices. This feature automatically connects the headphones to any Apple device with a user account when the user turns on the sound and actively uses the device.
