Sonnet Technologies assortment was supplemented by an unusual and so far unique expansion card Fusion Dual U.2 SSD PCIe Card (FUS-U2-2X4-E3). It connects two U.2 size SSDs to the PCIe slot, with the drives mounted directly on the card.
The Fusion card supports U.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 3 drives that are identical in size to the 2.5-inch SATA SSD, but far superior in performance. It can be installed in a motherboard slot or in an external chassis that connects via Thunderbolt.
According to Sonnet, the novelty will interest users who need high-speed and roomy storage, such as those who edit 6K and higher resolution videos. The U.2 SSD is currently available in capacities up to 16TB and supports data transfer rates of up to 3,500MB/s. With two SSDs mounted on a Sonnet card and combined into a RAID 0 array, it is capable of sustained data transfer speeds of up to 6,250MB/s. RAID 1 configuration is also supported.
The card is suitable for MacOS, Windows and Linux computers. It does not require any drivers to be installed or any configuration. Please note that the SSD on the card can only be bootable from macOS and from a drive that is not included in the RAID array.
Sales of the device have already started at the price of 200 dollars.
