Globalfoundries (GF), a semiconductor contract manufacturing company, introduced the next generation of its FDX platform. It is called 22FDX+ and is designed “to meet the ever-increasing demand for higher performance and ultra-low power consumption of connected devices. By the way, according to GF calculations, the previous 22FDX platform (22nm FD-SOI) was used to produce more than 350 million chips, and the total order amount was $4.5 billion.
It is not difficult to understand that 22FDX+ is a development of 22FDX. Improvements include a wider set of features that provide high performance, ultra-low power consumption, and special features demanded by the latest generation of projects. According to GF, the new platform “will allow customers to create chips specifically optimized for Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, automotive and satellite communications.
The first specialized solution, which will be available on the new platform GF 22FDX +, will be the technical process 22FDX RF +. It is suitable for digital and radio frequency circuits, and is optimized for performance criteria. This process is to be available in the first quarter of 2021. The 22FDX RF+ will be launched on a 300 mm GF production line at the Fab 1 in Dresden.
