Earlier this month we already learned that backwards compatibility mode on Xbox Series S will not work the same way as on Xbox Series X. This means less performance and less memory. There are more details on that today. For example, games for the original Xbox will run on the Xbox Series S with higher resolution. This will be a maximum of 1440p. In addition, there will be an increase in performance.
Xbox 360 games that have already been improved for the Xbox One X in the past will also be improved. Depending on the project, the resolution will be between 720p and 1440p, but the performance may be higher than even on the more powerful Xbox One X, since the latter focuses on 4K resolution. In addition, the novelty has a much more powerful CPU.
Microsoft also revealed an interesting feature regarding how the Xbox Series S will improve games for the Xbox One S. The improvement will consist of doubling the frame rate, which was not the case with the Xbox One X. And this is extremely easy to implement. As stated by the Microsoft developer, it does not require any special configuration – often it is as easy as changing three lines of code. Sometimes, however, additional changes are still required but they are also easy to implement.
