According to Le Monde, France’s largest consumer group UFC-Que Choisir has filed a lawsuit against Nintendo in Paris’s Nanterre district. The reason is that the Nintendo Joy-Con controllers for Switch console break down very quickly. Often, they fail within a year.
For a long time, users complained that Joy-Con too easy to damage. In November last year, UFC-Que Choisir warned Nintendo of France that the company should not charge consumers 45 euros for repairing Joy-Con. Group representatives said that Nintendo should repair them for free. At the same time, UFC-Que Choisir also called Switch the most problematic product last year.
A representative of the French consumer group UFC-Que Choisir said that in just 2 days they collected more than 5000 testimonials. So they started asking the experts to study this issue. The experts came to the conclusion that the printed circuit board wears out quickly. In addition, the device case easily accumulates dirt and dust, which leads to failure.
UFC-Que Choisir believes that Nintendo consciously did not use the information obtained to improve the Joy-Con. He has said that Nintendo deliberately sells products that are subject to failure within a year. According to UFC-Que Choisir statistics, 65% of Joy-Con failures occurred within one year of purchase. And the probability of problems has nothing to do with the age of consumers and the time of play. 25% of affected consumers play very rarely, but their controllers failed within six months.
Nintendo has not yet responded in any way to this.
