Breakthrough Photography, a San Francisco-based company, introduced an adapter that makes it possible to use Canon EF lenses with Canon RF mounts. It provides automatic focus and image stabilization systems and data recording to EXIF. The aluminum alloy construction is sturdy and lightweight, and seals provide dust and splash protection. Removable element with a threaded hole 1/4″ is designed for mounting on a tripod.
Feature of the adapter is a slot for the filter. Canon has a similar adapter, but the Breakthrough EF-RF Drop-In Filter Adapter is the first filter adapter offered by a third-party manufacturer. By the way, it is compatible not only with Breakthrough filters, but also with Canon branded filters.
The list of compatible cameras includes Canon EOS R, R5 and R6 and RED Komodo.
The adapter is already available for pre-order at $199. Delivery is expected to begin on November 16th. The first 500 orders will also be added free of charge with Breakthrough XF Clear filter. There are many other plug-in filters in the Breakthrough catalog.
It is interesting to note that Breakthrough offers a program to buy back Canon adapters provided that you buy Breakthrough EF-RF Drop-In Filter Adapter. You can get a refund of $69 for a regular Canon EF-RF adapter and $149 for an adapter with plug-in filter support.
