Canon expands its line of CJ20ex5B broadcast with UHDxs zoom lenses suitable for 4K video

Canon announced the release of the CJ20ex5B zoom lens. This wide angle lens complements the range of broadcast UHDxs lenses designed for cameras with 2/3-inch sensors. It is suitable for 4K video and, according to the manufacturer, “is ideal for broadcast applications including studio, news, sports and documentary shooting”.

The CJ20ex5B features a wide range of focal lengths (5-100 mm or 10-200 mm with a built-in teleconverter) and a low weight of 2.2 kg. The lens provides crisp images throughout the frame area. It is compatible with cameras that support chromatic aberration correction in the BT.2020 color space and meets the latest industry standards. The maximum aperture is f/1.8-2.95. The lens has an internal focus. The lens is equipped with a display for quick viewing and changing settings.

In addition, the CJ20ex5B has a 16-bit absolute encoder which enables it to read focal length, focus and aperture readings with high precision without initializing the lens. Using three 20-pin connectors, the above data can be read even when the zoom and focus controllers are used simultaneously. This makes the lens compatible with virtual systems and remote control systems.

The manufacturer does not specify a price or start date.
